| Juniper's independent review of this process for managing MSW |
Arrow Ecology offer a range of operational, engineering and consulting services in waste management and sludge treatment. They have developed the ArrowBio process over the last 10-12 years and are promoting this technology for projects worldwide. The process operates at a commercial scale plant in Tel Aviv, which acts as the company’s R&D facility. The first commercial reference plant has now been commissioned at Jack’s Gully in New South Wales, Australia.
The technology uses a somewhat different approach to other MBT systems. It has a relatively high biogas yield and our new review considers the extent to which this is offset by other features of the process. The report also assesses the extent to which these differences confer advantages relative to competitive technologies. We assess the performance of the technology and the marketability of the output, before reporting our overall perspective on the merits of this process.
This report updates and expands upon an earlier review prepared by Juniper in 2004/05. It contains new information based on discussions we held with Arrow Ecology and Oaktech, in 2006 and 2008, and a site appraisal of the reference plant in Tel Aviv. It is the most comprehensive review, of this process, which is available to the public. This independent review is essential reading for anyone interested in the Arrowbio process or, more broadly, the anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste.
