This ratings report covers all types of processes that result in the generation of a syngas:

• Conventional gasification; e.g. updraft, downdraft, fluidised bed and entrained flow processes
• Plasma gasification
• Pyrolysis processes that produce a syngas
• Systems that utilise a combination of the above technologies

Our ratings comprise operations at all scales and for various types of waste including MSW, RDF, medical waste, a variety of industrial and chemical wastes as well as a broad range of biomass materials and co-gasification of waste with biomass and coal. We have also included the major gasification technologies operating on coal, petcoke and oil refinery residues.

Normally the technologies are listed under the company that is the process developer and not under local agents or engineering partners; however in some instances we have listed other companies with whom a technology is often associated, such as a licensee for a particular geographical territory.

Where the energy recovery method is unclear it is assumed that the generation of electricity is via the steam cycle.  If a company is specifically pursuing other routes this is noted in the text and our rating reflects the extent to which this integrated concept has been demonstrated.

It should be noted that other processes such as plasma combustion, plasma vitrification and plasma polishing or pyrolysis process that result in the formation of a liquid product are not covered in this report, but are included in the JuniperRatings for plasma technologies, small-to-medium EfW and large scale EfW.
