This covers processes which are being promoted for the anaerobic digestion of a wide range of solids and slurried organic input including ‘clean biomass’ and some types of waste-derived biomass, at all scales.
As a broad range of systems from all over the world are included, Juniper indicates the specific type of feedstock against which a supplier is rated. Also, where a supplier only has operating experience with their process at certain scales, reference is made to this fact as scaling is a significant technical risk factor for many AD projects.
The Ratings Report makes no differentiation between the various ways AD can be configured. Juniper assesses the extent to which the process is proven, making no distinction between the different configurations. One reason for taking this approach is that many suppliers have experience with more than one process configuration and often different process configurations have been implemented successfully in separate projects to treat similar feedstock. Also, a process configuration that is advantageous in one geography may be less advantageous in another.
As the specific type of process configuration to be implemented is tailored to the individual application, Juniper aims to provide readers with an indication of the suppliers that have experience with a feedstock that is of interest.
In certain cases, the process being marketed by the main process developer is rated as well as that offered by the licensee. Not all licensees of AD technology worldwide are included, only those that are, in our opinion, actively marketing their technology for solid and slurried waste applications.
