This report covers plasma processes at all scales and for various types of waste
It includes processes in which plasma is the core technology such as plasma combustion; plasma gasification; plasma pyrolysis; those in which plasma is the secondary processing stage to assist in the upgrading of raw syngas from a primary gasification or pyrolysis stage (such as plasma polishing); and also those processes in which plasma is used only as part of ancillary systems such as ash vitrification.
As thermal plasmas operate at very high temperatures, they are the most relevant variant for waste degradation applications and this is the variant that we cover in the report.
Where the energy recovery method is not spelt out it is assumed to be the generation of electricity via the steam cycle. If a company is specifically pursuing other routes, this is noted in the text and our rating reflects the extent to which this integrated concept has been demonstrated.
As with the other ratings summaries in this series we will produce regular updates as new or changed information becomes available. See below for how to subscribe to the update service.
